Released with Cherry on Top

August 1, 2011

Yeah! My new pattern is finally ready! Very excited about it. My newest Cherry on Top cardigan pattern is available in sizes 2T – 8. August is the best time to start a project for fall/winter and for many of us – for a new school year. I am finishing a second one now, for my other daughter. She is at the age now when she patiently lets me try it on.

The name for the design was actually inspired by the cute little ball buttons that I bought for the cardigan. They looked just like cherries.

Cherry on Top is a girls’ cardigan that is worked from the bottom up as one piece. The sleeves are worked from the picked up along the body stitches and worked in rounds. This type of construction allows to avoid seaming (the only seams are shoulder seams) and to adjust sleeve length as the child grows. This is a classic cardigan with 1×1 ribbed neck, bottom and sleeve bands. The closure is worked in garter stitch.  Buttons should be in a contrasting color.

Skills required: cabling, knitting in rounds with dpns, ability to maintain established pattern.

This pattern is currently in works for Knit Picks Independent Designer Program and might be a part of the program shortly.

Cherry on Top Cardigan. $4.
